Project Overview
Local Leaf, a well-known Portland-based grower, opened its first retail location in North Deering. Working with M.W. Hoss Construction and Kaplan Thompson Architects, the project preserved key original building elements — including the iconic canopy — to give the store a distinctive retro character while bringing the building up to modern commercial standards.
Mash Mechanical handled the mechanical package. Retail spaces have to feel comfortable the moment a customer walks in, no matter the season, so the heating and cooling was zoned across the sales floor, counter area and back-of-house, with ventilation sized for occupancy and odor control. Ductwork and equipment were routed to keep the restored architectural details fully exposed.
